Autographs after the show?

The other day on Facebook, I was slightly amused to see that GOD had set up a fan page. He has no recent activity outside of his joining, no wall posts, and no information concerning how to contact him, or what his official webpage is outside of FB. Out of 300 million Facebook users, he only has 415,000 fans, or just barely more than 1/10th of 1%. By comparison, Jesus only has 322,000 groupies. God's picture is a cross on a hill with a sunset as a backdrop, while Jesus chose the traditional Italian kung fu master look with an exploding heart in the middle of his shirt. As if the page itself wasn't bad enough, people have posted their heartfelt messages to God as well, and then get in arguments with people who make derisive comments. I think that if I wanted to get people to see who God was, I would tell them through Facebook that they obviously have no concept of who he is. That way, they would see the error of their ways, repent, and be a REAL fan of GOD. On Facebook.

Are you kidding me?

Does anybody really wonder why the world is increasingly skeptical of Christianity?

I'm not going to pass this all off on the rest of the world, I'll just say that I find it very difficult to identify myself as a Christian when the culture that surrounds Christianity seems to continually obscure and make a parody of itself.

I am willing to guess [and would not be surprised] that whoever set up the page is probably an athiest who is getting a really good laugh right now. GOD has 14,396 followers on Twitter, while Jesus has a cool 4,080. Comments to God on Facebook include thanks, claims of superior fanship [Dear God, I am one of your BIGGEST FANS!], and cute cliches that I could stick on my refrigerator or on a bumper sticker.

What are people trying to prove? I'm really curious about other peoples' thoughts on this, so if you've been so kind as to stop by and read this, take the time to comment back and tell me what YOU think. Does a fan club accomplish anything? Does it point to anything?

What do you think?
